THE A-TRAIN RANT 8.0!!!

Posted in Baseball, Basketball, Football, Sports with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on October 30, 2012 by A-Train

It’s been such a long time since I have ranted that I might just do a HUGE rant for this one! But let’s go!

This rant is sponsored by…

THE ANGRY REDBIRD!!

  1. Congratulations to the San Francisco Giants winning their 2nd championship in 3 years. How sad it was for Miguel Cabrera who has just recently suffered the Carlos Beltran Syndrome. The Carlos Beltran Syndrome was made in 2006 after Beltran struck out in the 2006 NLCS freezing on a called third strike that ended that series. When you get frozen on a third strike to end a World Series…everything that was done that season almost meant nothing. Sorry Mr. Triple Crown.
  2. Pablo Sandoval isn’t in the same league as Albert Pujols, Babe Ruth and Reggie Jackson. But what he did in Game 1 was better than all 3. And I hate that. That’s just the homer in me.
  3. St. Louis Rams fans should be satisfied about the 3-5 record, forget what happened against New England in London. Yeah they gave up a couple of games and should have a winning record…but remember these are the Rams.
  4. Steven Jackson should be traded…time to give up the golden goose. YEAH I SAID IT. Tired of defending this dude.
  5. Sam Bradford finally has an offensive coordinator that will be back next season. Just need to work on the…offense.
  6. Jerry Jones needs to give up his job as general manager of Dallas. Tony Romo needs to give up his starting job as quarterback. Does the name Marc Bulger ring a bell? Jason Garrett needs to just be an offensive coordinator.
  7. Atlanta Falcons are 7-0. Guess what? BIG DEAL. Win a game in the playoffs, then you can celebrate. While you sitting there saying that I’m a hater. Let me put some truth in your minds. Last two playoff games the Falcons played, they lost to the Super Bowl winner. Having one of the first round byes doesn’t get a team to the Super Bowl…teams that constantly play get you there. Don’t believe me…ask the last two champions.
  8. If Lance Armstrong is banned from cycling, Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez, Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa need to be banned from baseball.
  9. Stephen A. Smith did not say the N-word…meaning he’ll keep his job on First Take.
  10. Cari Champion is the sexiest sportscaster on TV. Find me one better. And I’ll disagree with you.
  11. No hockey, sorry fans. You got the hardwood or the gridiron. Suck it up.

Well so much for the huge rant…might do another one this week. Stay tuned. Some NBA is in store…The Association coming soon.

THE A-TRAIN RANT 5.0!

After letting a week go by without doing my rant…I actually have one in me.

So……

  1. Shoutout to all the referees getting their jobs back and their deals were worked out. Let’s see how long it takes before fans are ready to lynch them all over again and be like…”Bring back the replacement refs.” Don’t tell that to a Packers fan though. *Smiles*
  2. Sunday was a good day for a St. Louis sports fan…Cardinals and Rams won. Any hope for the Blues though?
  3. About those Cardinals, despite the fact they won 2 out of 3 games against the Washington Nationals, I’m still ticked off about the decision made to pitch to red-hot Kurt Suzuki in the extra-inning affair of the 2nd game (Cardinals lost). Can’t do that come playoff time.
  4. Missouri beat Central Florida…big whoop. Alabama is next for them. I’ll let you figure that result.
  5. Speaking of the Rams, the defense is awesome. Amazing how, in the game against the Seahawks…defense and special teams scored all of their points. Offense scored zero. No TDs. That’s a problem and you got to lace them back up again on Thursday night against a re-surged (at least what we know of) Arizona squad (who just beat Miami in OT).
  6. The Kansas City Chiefs suck. The game against New Orleans was a fluke. Where’s Bob Fescoe (of 610 Sports Radio in KC) and his rant now? I’ll wait.
  7. NBA season is around the corner and so is NBA 2K13 (coming Oct. 2nd)
  8. (Even though I don’t like the team) Shoutout to Homer Bailey of the Cincinnati Reds, pitching baseball’s 7th no-hitter of the season. Damn, should we check pitchers for steroids now?
  9. Hockey season here yet? Hockey fans just suck it up and watch the NBA. Sorry.
  10. Kevin Garnett needs to retire from basketball if he’s going to act like an ex-wife. “Me and Ray Allen are not speaking to each other.” What the green and orange hell?
  11. I agree with Bomani Jones, Rasheed Wallace needs to coach. He gets his head on straight (pure longshot), I think he could do an awesome job. I don’t think he needs to play anymore. If you look at ‘Sheed, he could have been a dominate force in his career. DOMINANT. Awesome shooter, good post moves, and play crazy good defense. Maybe that was just with Detroit…but he was good though.
  12. Tiger Woods was the real reason that the US lost the Ryder Cup…nobody will really say that though. But I will. Hell, I like Tiger.
  13. Somewhere a Drew Brees hater is laughing his ass off. Saints now 0-4 after losing by 1 to the Packers.
  14. The NFC West is the best division in the NFL. Take that, NFL! Since the new alignment in 2002, I think this is the 1st time that this division has all of their teams at .500 or better.
  15. Cam Newton and the Panthers defense…YOU ARE THE “N THE ZONE” IDIOTS OF THE WEEK! Cam, if you’re going to do an ATL dance…do it after the game when you win. Panthers defense…learn the prevent defense.

I’m done. Not as big as I hoped. It’s all good though.

Thanks again to Nadine Liverpool (of SportsNAYtion) for that wonderful interview. Coming up, I’ll have author Allen Schatz with and discuss some of his baseball writings. Plus, looking forward to hopefully interviewing Jay Randolph, Jr. and Sara Bruce of the St. Louis sports radio show, “The Big Phat Sports Show.”

Stay tuned.

A Few Questions….with Nadine Liverpool

Posted in Baseball, Basketball, Football, Hockey, Special, Sports with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on September 27, 2012 by A-Train

Ladies and gents of St. Louis (and all over the world), The A-Train would like to introduce a young lady who is a very talented sports media personality on the rise…AND SHE’S NOT EVEN FROM THE US OF A…but she hopes to one day to dominate over your American TV screens with her charm and voice, she is none other than Canada’s daughter in the sports world…Nadine Liverpool.

A-TRAIN: How you doing today, Nadine?

NADINE: I’m doing good thanks.

A-TRAIN: From what I have seen, you have an impressive resume already in just 3 years, and dammit, not going to lie, you are an attractive female.

NADINE: Aw, shucks.

A-TRAIN: Not trying to flirt with you, I hope you understand.

NADINE: Yea we gotta keep it professioNAAL.

A-TRAIN: Exactly. As long as you know. Let’s move to the questions: What made you want to get in this business?

NADINE: Well, I’ve played soccer my whole life growing up and was actually pretty good. I played on the Canadian national team in high school and then got a soccer scholarship to play at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (Go Blazers!) The thought of doing beep tests for the rest of my life scared the sh*t out of me, so I decided to stop playing soccer and pursue another path. I moved back to my hometown of Toronto and my plan was to save up for a year and then move back to the States and get my masters in sports management but a lot of people were like, “You should pursue sports broadcasting.” I guess people think I’m bubbly or what not. So I ended up taking a post-graduate sports journalism program in Toronto and fell in love with it. I always used to watch Hannah Storm on NBA Inside Stuff or Robin Roberts anchoring Sportscenter when I was a young lad and think, “Wow, they have the coolest job.” But the thing was I had no idea how to pursue it and this was my chance so I went for it and haven’t looked back.

I then created my own YouTube channel called SportsNAYtion, where I talk about the sports topic of the day. I guess you can call me a sports vlogger. It started to get a lot of attraction and the channel has grown a lot. Besides that, I also host, report, do play-by-play, produce, shoot, edit, a whole of bunch of stuff. You can say I’m the jack-of-all-trades trying to become the master of one.

A-TRAIN: Yep, I can actually say that you are. But knowing who I am, I have to ask you this… Who are you blaming for what is going on with the NFL? The refs? The fans? Roger Goodell?

NADINE: Roger Goodell hands down. The NFL is a billion dollar industry and it’s ruining the integrity of the game to have these incompetent referees on the field. And over what? Some chump change? It’s not fair to the teams, the players, and especially the fans.

A-TRAIN: Sooooo…..Would you rather be watching the CFL or better yet…college football?

NADINE: The CFL? What’s that? Lol No just kidding I know what the CFL is but three-down football is not my cup of tea. I watch NCAA football every week. Alabama is going undefeated this year. Member you heard it here first.

A-TRAIN: Duly noted. I’ll remember to mark this on my calendar. So, is the NFL hurting your fantasy football team?

NADINE: I’m in three leagues right now and I’m doing good in 2. My third one is a 20-team league and if you don’t draft well, you’re pretty much screwed. And lucky me, I have Fred Jackson and Aaron Hernandez who are both injured, so I’m taking constant L’s.

A-TRAIN: Damn. Are you saddened that there is a work stoppage in the NHL…again? Stating that you are Canadian and you love hockey, right? Or am I making assumptions?

NADINE: I like to call myself an Anti-Canadian sports fan. Meaning I’m not a big fan of hockey or baseball. Basketball-Football-Soccer. That’s all me. So quite frankly, the NHL could go on strike for 10 years and I wouldn’t really care.

A-TRAIN: Hmmm interesting. Let’s move away from that for a sec, so if you were not covering sports like you are now…what would you be doing?

NADINE: I would probably be working for a women empowerment non-profit organization. I’m really big on females having their own voice and paving their own path and I would want to help conduct events to teach ladies how to find their inner Beyonce. (Who run the world? Girls!)

A-TRAIN: You are about to make me bring out my inner James Brown. Because (singing) THIS IS A MAN’S WORLD! I’m sorry I forgot I was doing an interview. (Clears throat) So, ummm your best sports interview?

NADINE: It would have to be with Deion Sanders. He was a guest on a radio show I used to host and he was just so much fun, had so much energy. I idolized him when I was a kid, so the opportunity to interview him about making the Hall of Fame was pretty surreal.

A-TRAIN: What or who would be your ultimate interview?

NADINE: KOBE BRYANT. He’s my future ex-husband, you didn’t know? LOL

A-TRAIN: Ummm no I didn’t.

NADINE: My friends always tell me I’m a Kobe groupie like it’s a bad thing.

A-TRAIN: It is a bad thing, LOL. Just kidding.

NADINE: But yea Kobe Bryant, hands down.

A-TRAIN: From your resume, you have worked with The Bottom Line Sports Show, what was your best experience from that?

NADINE: I got to interview some pretty high-profiled athletes like Maurice Jones-Drew, Dwight Howard, Deion Sanders like I mentioned before plus more. The best experience was just to be able to be me and be the female voice on the show. It was a great opportunity to represent and show that ladies know their sports too.

A-TRAIN: I see that you are a huge soccer fan. By the way, I have seen some pics of you in uniform (Looks around) Promise you, I’m not stalking you.

NADINE: Hmm mmm. I swear it was you that liked 25 of my pics the other day Lol

A-TRAIN: (spits out drink and laughs) Ummm, any World Cups in your future?

NADINE: Every World Cup I say I’m going and I never make it. It would be my dream to be able to go and report on it. Who wants to start a donation pot so I can go to Brazil 2014?

A-TRAIN: I can’t. I would love to go though. NBA season is just around the corner…any early predictions?

NADINE: Lakers all day every day, even on Sunday. LA-MIA final with the Lakers winning in 6. The black mamba wins Finals MVP and let the ‘Is Kobe better than MJ’ debates begin!

A-TRAIN: Lord, that better not happen. Favorite sports teams? You know I have to ask.

NADINE: like all the teams that everyone hates. Lakers, Patriots, Duke, Alabama Crimson Tide, Liverpool FC. Their god-awful but I also root for my local teams like the Raptors, Toronto FC, Leafs, Jays, etc. And can’t forget my Blazers!

A-TRAIN: You not making this easy for me especially all the teams that people hate. SMH Just kidding. Favorite athletes?

NADINE: Kobe Bryant, Steven Gerrard, Tom Brady, Derek Jeter, and Charmaine Hooper.

A-TRAIN: Alright…before you go, let’s step outside the box. You ready?

NADINE: Born ready.

A-TRAIN: Top 5 songs you listening to right now.

NADINE: My Top 5 is pretty much anything Meek Mill and I’ll throw in Rich Forever by Rick Ross.

A-TRAIN: That’s not 5 but I’ll take it…the 5 TV shows you watching.

NADINE: Well, all the fall premieres are starting up and I’m excited for that. My list would go 1. Scandal 2. Dexter 3. The Newsroom (First season just ended) 4. Family Guy 5. Seinfeld (Can’t go wrong with a classic)

A-TRAIN: Now that’s a top 5. (laughs) Alright, Nadine…I know you are a busy lady and you have a lot going. Where can we find you?

NADINE: Youtube.com/SportsNAYtion. Subscribe! And you can follow me on twitter @SportsNAYtion and LIKE my Facebook fan page (facebook.com/sportsnaytion) For any bookings or inquiries; peeps can email me at Nadine.liverpool@gmail.com. My blog sportsnaytion.com is being done right now and should be up in a couple of weeks so stay tuned!

A-TRAIN: Any shoutouts to give?

NADINE: Shoutouts to you for having this dope interview with me.

A-TRAIN: Awwwww. You trying to make a man blush. Don’t do that. (clears throat) Well, thanks for your time, Nadine. Definitely will give you the support. Once I get my show back, you’re on as a guest. Cool?

NADINE: Oh for sure.

A-TRAIN: That’s Nadine Liverpool from SportsNayTion and Sportsnet. The A-Train signing off.

It’s time for another great rant coming from the A-Train…you should love this one. Here we go.

  1. Josh Morgan…you are “The A-Train Rant” DUMMY OF THE WEEK, WEEK, WEEK! Hope and pray that Mike Shanahan give you the pink slip and tell you, “Today is your last day as a Redskin, please turn in your playbook.”
  2. Speaking of football, good win for the Jeff Fisher and the St. Louis Rams. Got that first win and RGIII took his first loss, also means that you shut up John Madden…at least for this week.
  3. Andrew Luck is a beast? Too soon???
  4. Good Sunday to have Cardinals at the end of it. The St. Louis baseball team beat the Dodgers keep a one game lead for the second wild card spot (may have meaning after all). Shoutout to the Arizona football team (too young to really remember the team being in St. Louis), going into Foxboro and knocking off the New England Patriots in their home opener. 1st time any team has beaten the Pats on their home field for their opener. Tom Brady still wondering, “We lost to Arizona? In our home opener?” Yeah, Tom. You did.
  5. Mizzou will be get the tar and feathers beaten off them for the next two weeks. They are about to learn what the SEC really feels like.
  6. Speaking of the SEC, one of those teams will be in the national championship, again. If not careful…it’s LSU/Bama part 2. People will hate that for life! I for one, would love it all over again. Just keep showing how flawed the NCAA system really is.
  7. After watching Peyton Manning against the Falcons, (BOLD STATEMENT TO MAKE) I think Eli Manning will be better than his brother. At least he’s got one thing on Peyton…more Super Bowls.
  8. The New Orleans Saints need some serious help. But thanks Roger, you screwed up not only them but the NFL as well with your patty cake approach to protect your precious golden-arm quarterbacks. In the illustrious words of Tia and Tamera, “GO HOME ROGER!” I know it was bad. So what!
  9. Back to the NFL, these replacement refs have got to go. I tried to support them last time and now I can’ t take it anymore. I think it was FoxSports.com columnist Jason Whitlock that said on Twitter…”the refs don’t understand the NFL philosophy.”
  10. LA Lakers center Dwight Howard had stated through “a source” on ESPN.com that he never wanted to be hated…Brother, that’s all you did was cause hate. People will hate you regardless. If you are successful or better yet, just because you are black. Yeah I said it. The race card still plays in this world that you and I live in. It’s sad, but true.
  11. Speaking of LA Lakers, Ron Artest (I refuse to call him Metta World Peace) said that he believes the Lakers can go 73-9. Hey Ron, why don’t you just say 82-0? I mean you got the right coach to do it, right? You got Phil…eh…Mike Brown to do it. Plus all those injury-plagued players on your team like Pau Gasol and hell, even Kobe Bryant. What other bums, I mean players do they have…well there is Steve Blake, Jordan Hill, and my favorites Dwight Howard and Steve Nash. Looks like you got all the right pieces in place. All you have to do now is get past the Spurs and Thunder and the Miami Heat (paper champs) and you’re in. Well, that was a good dream to not see unfold. I know we have a season coming up but that damn sure won’t happen. Sorry Laker fans. Keep dreaming!
  12. Oh yes…this is a must. After watching Night of Champions I have come to the conclusion that the WWE wants CM Punk to fight The Rock at Wrestlemania. Just to give this idiot the main event he deserves. Otherwise, he’ll lose the belt at Hell In A Cell. (SIDEBAR NOTE) Good to know that Jerry Lawler is OK and released from the hospital. It would have been a sad day if it was more severe. Now lay off the ropes and just commentate.

ONE LAST THING…SHOUTOUT TO MY HOMEY Twillie Cottingham celebrating a birthday today! Make sure you follow her @MissESPN34…fellas, if  you looking for a lady who knows her sports…she’s one of them. Die-hard fan! (She’s going to hurt me for this)

I’m done. More to come soon. Hopefully a radio show soon. Stay tuned.

Please post your comments below. Greatly appreciate it. Bad comments (that will depend on how I feel) will get the boot.

Time now for another great rant from the A-Train and it goes a little something like this…

(Clears throat)

  1. RGIII is a beast! That’s tough luck for the Rams (PLEASE prove me wrong St. Louis, PLEASE!)
  2. Jay Cutler just needs to shut the HELL up and play some football. BEARS FANS YOU CAN THANK ME LATER.
  3. Dwight Howard will be a hinder the L.A. Lakers…which means no championship for DH12…don’t believe me, ask James Worthy.
  4. The Mizzou Tigers might get only 1 win in the next three weeks…and I’m a Tiger fan.
  5. If the St. Louis Cardinals continue to keep playing so pitiful (yeah even the 2-1 win was pitiful…yet helpful), the Atlanta Braves will have a good laugh and sweet revenge. Trust me…they have not forgotten about last season.
  6. THE WASHINGTON NATIONALS ARE PURE IDIOTS! PURE IDIOTS! You have a top pitcher in Stephen Strasburg and say…”Well, let’s shut him down for the season. Don’t mess up that golden arm.” Manager Davey Johnson seriously doesn’t believe in this theory. He just fooling people that he is for this. Either way, I hope they get swept in the division series.
  7. Gary Bettman and David Stern are the dumbest commissioners in the four major sports.
  8. Bud Selig and Roger Goodell (BELIEVE IT OR NOT) are the smartest commissioners. Sad part…I can’t stand any of them, yet I’m stuck with them. A friend of mine is going to love these previous two statements. I can feel it. **Kanye shrug**
  9. I still have hope for the Baltimore Orioles winning the AL East…baseball needs a true shakeup and Baltimore is it. Hey, it’s going to happen in Boston, except in a bad and negative way.
  10. If replacement refs are keeping the NFL afloat, then just take it and leave them alone. It could be worse, no refs, no NFL games. SO BE THANKFUL.
  11. So Jim Calhoun retires…I wish the best for him. 29 seasons, 3 national championships…a good legacy for the most. Now, the stuff behind the scenes that were not so great, is between him, the University of Connecticut, the NCAA and God. Well…good luck to Kevin Ollie. But seriously though, a one-year trial??? He only gets one year to prove himself…C’mon man!
  12. As a sports gamer (person who plays sports video games for slow ones) I like EA Sports…BUT if they dare put out NBA Live 13 this fall, they should never make basketball video games again. IT’S ATROCIOUS, IT’S AN ABOMINATION TO FANS! Plus, that interview w/ the Live engineer…FORGET IT, I REFUSE TO DO IT, don’t ask why. Thanks.
  13. Speaking to EA Sports games…this is directed to EA Sports: If you know how to make good football games, WHY DO YOU KEEP COMING UP SHORT ON BASKETBALL, WHY? ASK YOURSELVES THAT, PLEASE! IT’S A DAMN SHAME!
  14. On a lighter note, shoutout to Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls…I’ll let you see it for yourself. He’s a class act in my opinion. More athletes need to be humble. REAL TALK. Here you go: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-ball-dont-lie/derrick-rose-breaks-down-tears-shoe-company-product-130215847–nba.html
  15. UPDATE: Good to hear that Jerry “The King” Lawler is back after having a heart attack on last Monday’s LIVE Raw broadcast. The thing I don’t like is that the doctors that treated him said…HE CAN WRESTLE AGAIN? You’re serious? King, listen. You have had a storied career, but it’s really time to hang it up. Go back to the announcer’s table and stay there. GLUED TO THE SEAT! THANK YOU!

After that, I’m spent. Good day, folks.

The A-Train

THE A-TRAIN RANT 1.0!!!

Posted in Baseball, Basketball, Football, Sports on September 7, 2012 by A-Train

I haven’t been on here in a while and that’s because of transition…but HERE I AM…AND I FEEL LIKE RANTING!

HERE WE GO! (Everything coming out are my thoughts at this very moment)

  1. I hope the Baltimore Orioles win the AL East. I can’t stand the Yankees. Time for an underdog like the St. Louis Cardinals did in 2011.
  2. Speaking of the Cardinals, I’m about to throw up my hands and give up on them. Last time I did that, they won the World Series last year. Hoping for deja vu. *Fingers crossed*
  3. FOOTBALL IS BACK! If the St. Louis Rams can win at least 6 games…I’ll be satisfied. SMH…at least I can defend my Fantasy Football crown on NFL.com
  4. Happy to see that the New Orleans Saints are back on the field again…at least for Week 1.
  5. Call me crazy but The Big Phat Sports Show is a great local sports radio show to listen to. Shoutout to Dave Greene, Sara Bruce and Jay Randolph, Jr. I like something of everything, not just sports.
  6. Madden 13 is one of the best sports video games ever made. PEOPLE STOP HATING ON THE FACT THAT THERE IS NO FRANCHISE OR SUPERSTAR MODE. If you play the game, you will know that it’s BETTER than before. Plus, if you are looking for a good challenge. This is not your daddy’s Madden. Just saying.
  7. Savannah State’s athletic director, Sterling Steward, Jr. is a very smart man. Despite getting killed by OK State, 84-0, he set up another game against Florida State where the line is reported (as of this post) at -70. Great way to pimp big-time schools, grab some cash and get your butts kicked. If you are a betting man. You will take Savannah State on the points. I expect a “better” game of sorts for them. GOOD LUCK.
  8. Mizzou is officially welcomed into the SEC with their game against Georgia in Columbia. Hearing local sports talk radio say that Georgia is going to win shows that people from the home state are actually being real. Don’t get me wrong, as fans they (including me) want Mizzou to win, but this is one game that will probably shape how well this football team will do in the SEC. Good luck to them.
  9. I still can’t stand the Miami Heat! That’s all for that one.
  10. I once had an idea who would be the National League Most Valuable Player. Now I throw my hands up in disgust. It’s too tight to figure out at this moment.
  11. Shoutout to Walt Jocketty and the Cincinnati Reds (YES I SAID IT) for finding the right players to put together a championship-caliber team. I’m impressed on how well that they have used their farm system…especially fielding the NL Rookie Of The Year in Todd Frazier. They have an awesome lineup, starting staff and a ridiculous bullpen. If this team doesn’t get to the World Series in October, Dusty Baker should be fired. *Kanye shrug*
  12. Condolences to Art Modell and his family. While Modell was one of the driving force behind the Baltimore Ravens and help building a championship…he’ll be forever remembered by fans (especially in Cleveland) as the man who moved the Browns to Baltimore. That’s a crying shame.

Well…that’s enough for me ranting. I’ll be back with another rant soon. Don’t miss them. They will be fun. I promise.

NBA WHEEL AND DEAL

Posted in Basketball, Sports with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on July 5, 2012 by A-Train

ANNOUNCER:  THESE GENERAL MANAGERS DRESSED AS THEY ARE, COME FROM ALL OVER THE ASSOCIATION TO MAKE  DEALS AND SPEND MONEY HERE AT THE INTERNATIONAL MARKETPLACE, NBA WHEEL & DEAL! And now here’s the overseer of all the wheeling and dealing, THE A-TRAIN!

A-TRAIN: Thank you very much! Welcome to NBA Wheel & Deal! As you can see behind me, our general managers from all over the NBA have been literally WHEELING AND DEALING! The object of our game is to find the best valuable “pieces” to win an NBA championship! It’s that simple. Let’s go and check out the many different teams that are on the trading floor today!

**GOES TO BROOKLYN NETS GM BILLY KING**

As you can see, Billy King (along with Jay-Z and Mikhail Prokhorov) has went and made a couple of deals to fill their championship pieces…but still is missing one addition, this upcoming season’s big prize…DWIGHT HOWARD! All of our teams are going after the grand prize, the big fella in Orlando…which has by speculation has angered many NBA fans and media alike. But in the meantime, the Nets have “wheeled and dealed” to keep their superstar point guard Deron Williams for close to $100 million. In addition by acquiring Joe Johnson of the Atlanta Hawks for GET THIS…5 players! WOW! Some sure fire wheelin’ and dealin going on the Brooklyn side. Good luck to them.

**LOOKS AT ATLANTA’S TABLE**

Now, we move over to Atlanta, who had received 5 players via trade for Johnson. They are working very hard to provide a nucleus that could hopefully one day bring them a championship, in which the franchise hadn’t seen since 1958 when they were in St. Louis. No titles have come there way since being in Atlanta and no Finals appearances. It looks they are dealing even more as they are giving up Marvin Williams to the Utah Jazz. Atlanta is also going for the big prize in Dwight Howard. Howard is a hometown guy and I wonder if they will have the world to give to him because that is what is going  to be needed if they want to win anytime soon. Good luck to the Hawks.

Before we move on to another table…let’s discuss the game’s grand prize. Let’s go over to our announcer and hear what’s at stake for the grand prize. Johnny?

ANNOUNCER: ONE OF OUR TEAMS COULD WIN…DWIGHT HOWARD!!! THIS ORLANDO CENTER IS LOOKING FOR A NEW HOME, HE’S ALREADY HAD HIS GM AND HEAD COACH FIRED, PLUS HAS PROVIDED HEADACHES TO THE MANY NBA FAITHFUL FANS! BUT JUST TO LET OUR GMs IN THE GAME KNOW, HE CANNOT SIGN WITH ANOTHER TEAM UNLESS HE IS TRADED. HOWARD IS STILL UNDER CONTRACT. BUT IF YOU ARE THE TEAM TO WIN HIM OVER, YOU WILL RECEIVE A 6-FOOT-11 INCH, 265 POUND CENTER, A TERRIFIC SCORER, A DOMINANT REBOUNDER AND SHOT BLOCKER, A 6-TIME ALL-STAR, A 3-TIME DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR, AN NBA FIRST TEAMER AND DEFENSIVE FIRST TEAMER! IT’S ALL YOURS FROM NBA WHEEL & DEAL!!

Alright, you’ve heard about the grand prize and we’ve got more wheeling and dealing, including a deal that features Steve Nash, you come back for more NBA Wheel & Deal! WHY? Because the A-Train said so.

ANNOUNCER: NBA WHEEL & DEAL is sponsored by NO ONE! We’ll be back with more in a moment.

UPDATE: We have been informed to tell you that the rest of the broadcast has been cancelled! Apparently no one can make their mind about Dwight Howard, so we don’t care either. THANK YOU AND GOOD NIGHT!

MIZZOU PLAYERS GET DRAFTED

Posted in Sports, Basketball with tags , , , , , , , on June 30, 2012 by A-Train

Even though it wasn’t the biggest shock of that night…it still is worthy to note that two Missouri players were drafted in Thursday night’s NBA Draft. BIG UPS to guards Kim English and Marcus Denmon, as both were selected in the second round. English was chosen as the 44th pick by the Detroit Pistons. Denmon was chosen 59th by the San Antonio Spurs.

English should be a good fit for the Pistons, I think he can be a great role player turned to an eventual starter. Remembering how he came off terrible in his junior season, he (for the most part) redeemed himself in his senior season averaging close to 15 points/game and knocking down 46% of his 3-point shots. If he is able to create his own shot, he will have a great future in this league, even if it doesn’t work out in Detroit. The last Mizzou player to be selected by Detroit was Rickey Paulding back in 2004 when Paulding was selected 54th by the Pistons.

Denmon, on the other hand could be like Ben Gordon of the Charlotte Bobcats. The former 1st teamer of the Big 12, averaged close to 18 points and 5 rebounds a night for Mizzou in his senior season. It may be tougher for Denmon to make the squad as San Antonio that’s crowded with shooters like Stephen Jackson, Danny Green, Gary Neal, Matt Bonner and super reserve Manu GINOBLI!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (In my Charles Barkley voice).

My hope is that both Mizzou players can make their respective rosters and be dynamic players in the NBA.

We at N The Zone STL celebrate and congratulate St. Louis’ own Bradley Beal for being selected by the Washington Wizards with the 3rd pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. The 6’5″ 202-lb. guard played one season at the University of Florida, and was named a member of the All-SEC First Team and the All-SEC Freshman team. Beal finished 2nd on the team averaging just under 15 points/game, and just under 7 rebounds a game. CONGRATS TO BRADLEY BEAL!

NBA 2K13 Cover Athletes Revealed

Posted in Basketball, Sports, Video Games on June 26, 2012 by A-Train

The NBA season is over but the fun is just beginning. If you are a sports gamer like myself, the 3 biggest games in sports will completely keep you in the game. I’ll get into the topic about sports games and its realism at another time.

But today, 2K Sports and it’s high profile basketball games series NBA 2K, has revealed its cover athletes for the upcoming NBA 2K13. Judging from what I have seen in social media, the cover athletes’ reception is VERY negative. Either way it goes, I will be getting my copy. This series has stepped it up tremendously and it’s only getting better. This game will feature (for the first time) the NBA All-Star Weekend from Houston…(audience applause) THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Yes, I am very excited about that! I haven’t seen that since NBA Live 2005 when they had the Rookie Challenge, 3-Point Shootout and the Slam Dunk Contest. But it’s making a dramatic comeback. I can’t wait. And oh yeah, I forgot one thing. THE COVER! Check it out below. I like it and not just because I’m a Bulls fan.
